a planting of the Lord

"Don't dig up in doubt, what the Lord has planted in faith. "

The second I heard these words, I rushed to write them down. Elisabeth Elliot's voice continued to stream through my speaker, but over and over I repeated the phrase in my mind, unable to focus on anything else she may have been saying.

As I reflect even now, God brings to mind Isaiah 61 in which He proclaims a year of the Lord's favor on Zion. Verse 3 talks about being "a planting of the Lord, for the display of His splendor." For me, this verse immediately tied back to Elisabeth Elliot's statement.

If I am a planting of the Lord, then it was in faith, that He planted me where I am now for HIS purposes and HIS splendor. It's not time to wallow in discouragement or to dig up in doubt what I know to be true: God is faithful, always. And He promises to do far more abundantly than I could ever ask or hope for (Ephesians 3:20). Praise Him!
