Tuesday nights, my favorite people crowd into my favorite tea house in Mexico City for our community group. Over the past months, that group has talked and prayed about what our next step might be. And yesterday -- we took that step. 23 friends and neighbors packed into our apartment for our very first church service.
I wouldn't be able to to explain it all -- the way our voices lifted up together to sing and how I'm so certain that passersby heard us from the street. Then later, those same voices taking turns to thank and celebrate the Lord in prayer or to read a pair of verses from Colossians. The way peace and joy marked the room, displaying itself in easy smiles and laughter. The way people who didn't know each other before, talked to each other and enjoyed each other. The way we couldn't let our Sunday celebration end there, so we walked through the park and to the new BBQ place in our neighborhood. The way we were so exhausted (the good kind) at the end of the day that we finally said our goodbyes so we could go home and take naps.
It was a day stunningly beautiful in its simplicity.
No, I wouldn't be able to explain it all -- so you may just want to join us and see for yourself.
